Wed, Nov 18, 2026 · In-Person and Virtual
Sponsored seats are for students and young professionals. All other attendees, please register here.
NYSI is proud to partner with the National Security Forum of Nevada (NSF) for Powering the Future: AI, Data Centers, and the Workforce of Tomorrow, the second program in NSF’s Securing Our Future series.
AI is changing how we work, learn, and protect our country, and Nevada is at the center of that change. This panel brings together Nevada experts to discuss what that means for our state and the next generation entering the workforce. The conversations will cover:
- AI in the workforce: how AI is changing the skills employers look for, and how to prepare
- Data centers in Nevada: the economic and environmental questions facing our state
- AI and national security: how AI and robotics are being applied to security challenges
- Education for tomorrow: how students can prepare for an AI-driven future
Meet the Speakers
- Jamie Christensen, Founder and CEO of CitizenWorks, on building an AI-savvy workforce and preparing people to put AI to work
- Erik Henzl, Research Scientist at the Desert Research Institute (DRI), on the economic and environmental questions around building data centers in Nevada
- Monica Nicolescu (invited), Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno, on applications of AI and robotics to national security and how to educate future students
Why this matters for NYSI:
NYSI exists to help young Nevadans see how national security connects to their own lives and communities. National security isn’t only about the military or intelligence work. It’s also about the technology we use, the resources our state depends on, and the workforce that will lead us forward. This forum puts students in the same room as the practitioners and community members working on these issues. Students can ask questions, explore career paths they may not have considered, and build connections across generations.
Whether or not students and young professionals plan to work in technology, AI can shape the industries they enter, the information they consume, and the communities they live in. Understanding it, including its opportunities and challenges, is part of being an informed, engaged member of their community.
Why you should attend:
- Free breakfast on us. Start your morning with a free breakfast while networking with experts, NSF members, and peers from UNR, TMCC, and WCSD high schools.
- Talk one-on-one with the experts. Meet the speakers during networking, ask your own questions, and get advice about your studies and career.
- Explore careers you may not have considered. National security takes scientists, engineers, policy analysts, educators, and entrepreneurs. See where your interests could fit.
- Strengthen your resume. Earn a certificate of participation.
- Win prizes. Every attendee is entered into a raffle for prizes.
